Smile design
Smile
design is a complex art of smile form, tooth form, color, tooth position,
esthetic goals, material qualities, and technique. The type of smile best suited
to
a
patient is critical to a perfect result and only comes about after close
consultation between patient and dentist.
Invisilign
Invisilign is a way to straighten and align your teeth, much like braces,
without obtrusive brackets and wires. A series of clear aligners are specially
fit to gradually shift teeth into place and improve your smile. Invisilign
includes a computer generated treatment plan to show projected results as a
three dimensional model for your approval. Each patient gets a specially
designed set of aligners for a customized transformation. These aligners are
removable for patient comfort and appearance.
Bleaching
Tiny
holes in the enamel of teeth collect stains from coffee, tea, soda, and other
foods. Bleaching is a technique that cleans teeth to make them whiter. Bleach is
placed in custom made trays, put in the mouth and left in place
for
half an hour. The process is repeated for several weeks to obtain maximum
results. You can control how white your teeth are by stopping at any time. Many
patients do not want their teeth too white. Teeth are lightened in small amounts
each time the bleach is applied so you can stop
when
you like the color of your teeth.
Bonding
Bonding is a technique,
rather
than a material, used in
restorations.
At a microscopic level,
organic material is
removed from
the surface of the tooth
creating a
honey-comb effect.
Special materials
fill in the honey-comb
and
adhere to a filling
material (usually
composite or porcelain).
Bonding can accomplish
several
things. It can be used
to lighten
the color of teeth, fill
in missing
tooth structure or
rebuild fractured
teeth. It can also fill spaces
between teeth or reshape
teeth to
look straighter or more pleasing.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are
thin shells
of ceramic material,
which are
bonded to the front of
teeth.
They can be the ideal
choice for
improving the appearance
of the
front teeth. Porcelain
veneers are
placed to mask
discolorations, to
close spaces, to
brighten teeth, to
straighten teeth, and to
repair
broken tooth structure.
Highly
resistant to permanent
staining.
Missing Teeth
Missing teeth are
replaced with
bridges, implants or
dentures.
Implants place a
titanium cylinder
into bone to which teeth
are
attached. Bridges crown
teeth on
either side of a space
and join
crowns together to
replace the
missing teeth. Preparing
teeth for
crowns destroys tooth
structure so
most often implants are
preferred
over bridges; however,
there are
many exceptions to this
rule.
