Microscope-Assisted Endodontics in Wellesley, MA

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy or simply root canals, is a commonly requested dental procedure. Endodontic treatment allows us to save a significantly damaged tooth and is an ideal alternative to extraction.

At Wellesley Dental Arts, we have introduced a new procedure known as microscope-assisted endodontics or micro-endodontics. As the name suggests, microscope-assisted endodontics involves the use of a microscope during endodontic treatment, which allows the Endodontist to see more detail than they would with their naked eye.

We’re proud to be a pioneer provider of microscope-assisted endodontics in Wellesley, MA, and welcome you to book a dental visit with us.

What to Expect

In many cases, a simple, non-surgical root canal gets the job done as far as saving a damaged or decayed tooth. However, there are instances when microscope-assisted endodontic treatment in Wellesley, MA, may be required. These include:

  • The occurrence of persistent periapical lesions after a non-surgical root canal
  • Extended pain and swelling after an initial treatment
  • Presence of calcified root canals, which make a simple root canal impossible
  • Failed root canal

If any of these are relevant to your case, our dentist may recommend micro-endodontics as a way to save your tooth.

On the day of your procedure, our Board Certified Endodontist accesses the inside of the damaged tooth by making a small access hole using a dental drill. The Endodontist then uses a microscope to magnify the areas inside your canals. Next, the Endodontist thoroughly cleans out the canals and finally seals the tooth using gutta-percha material. For severely damaged teeth, dental crowns may be required to restore the tooth’s function and appearance.

Benefits of Microscope-Assisted Endodontics

Microscope-assisted endodontics is advantageous in numerous, significant ways, including:

  • Microscope-assisted endodontics promises greater accuracy. The Endodontist can make cleaner and more precise incisions during treatment.
  • Thanks to the enhanced accuracy, there is reduced trauma and faster healing.
  • The microscope allows the dentist to have a clear view of the canals, thus facilitating easier access.
  • The dentist can easily spot any fourth canals and access all areas of curved canals. This significantly reduces the chances of needing endodontic retreatment.
