Partial Crowns, Inlays, & Onlays
At Wellesley Dental Arts, science and art come together to create long-lasting, natural partial crowns called inlays and onlays. Similar to tooth fillings, inlays and onlays fill cavities and other areas of trauma or tooth decay.
The most conservative approach to restorative dentistry, an inlay is a strong, durable material made outside the mouth that’s used to replace part of a tooth and is cemented or bonded into place. An inlay fits like a puzzle piece into the tooth. If one of the points, or cusps, is also replaced, this is called an onlay.
If the part of the tooth to be restored is even greater than a filling, inlay or onlay can accomplish, then we use a dental crown. Unlike regular fillings, which are composed of a soft material that is molded into the tooth, indirect porcelain fillings are generally shaped in a dental lab and then firmly cemented into place at a later visit. At Wellesley Dental Arts, we are able to use advanced Cerec® 3 technology to mill porcelain inlays and onlays while you wait and place them in your mouth the same visit!

Dental crowns, also known as caps, slide over teeth to hide misshaped, misaligned, discolored, or other tooth imperfections. Dental crowns cover and protect cracked teeth, increase comfort, and offer extra support to teeth that are weak or damaged. If you have old crowns with black lines by the gums, the Wellesley Dental Arts dentists can make porcelain crowns that will vastly improve the overall appearance of your smile.
With our advanced Cerec® 3D technology, you no longer have to wait for your dental crowns to be sent out to a laboratory for molding. Instead, your entire restoration can be created while you wait, in just one office visit.
At Wellesley Dental Arts, we believe that the best teeth are your own teeth. Our multi-specialty team of cosmetic dentists will do all they can to make sure that you keep your teeth. But sometimes, a tooth is badly damaged or lost. The good news is that a dental bridge can restore a badly damaged tooth or even replace a lost tooth.
A typical dental bridge consists of a filler tooth that is attached to two surrounding dental crowns. Once complete, our experienced Wellesley dentists bond this bridge structure into your mouth. Without a dental bridge, your remaining teeth can drift out of line and cause other dental problems, and possibly periodontal disease. All-porcelain dental bridges can safeguard the integrity of your existing teeth and help you maintain a healthy, vibrant smile. Dental implants are also a safe, more permanent option to dental bridges.

The Wellesley Dental Arts' multi-specialty dental team do all they can to make sure you keep your teeth. However, sometimes that isn’t possible and dentures are required. We offer many types of dentures, including complete and partial dentures.
Complete dentures are used when very little of your original teeth remain. A Wellesley Dental Arts dentist will first remove any of your remaining teeth to fit your dentures. Next, your dentist will make a mold of your gums and sends it to a dental lab where your customized dentures are constructed. Typically you’ll first be fitted with temporary dentures until your permanent set is ready.
Partial dentures are prepared in much the same way as a complete set and are recommended when only a few teeth are missing. Wellesley Dental Arts also offers implant-supported dentures. We work closely with our dental implant specialists to create the most appropriate dental solution for you.

Undoubtedly the lower dentures present the most difficulty for patients adjusting to dentures for the first time, as well as experienced denture wearers. It can be frustrating as you attempt to eat certain foods, or even to speak with confidence without fear that your lower teeth will begin to float in your mouth.
The Denture Stabilization System is a mini dental implant system that in most cases can be placed and attached to your lower denture in the same visit. There is no need for any incisions or stitches. Within one hour you can be on your way with a secure denture, able to eat and speak much more comfortably. Further, the Mini Implant System is much more affordable, in some cases 60-70% less expensive.
The Mini Implant System consists of a miniature titanium implant that acts like the root of your tooth and a retaining fixture that is incorporated into the base of the denture. The head of the implant is shaped like a ball, and the retaining fixture acts like a socket that contains a rubber O-ring. The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and hold the denture at a predetermined level of force. When seated, the denture gently rests on the gum tissue.
Placement of the implants is accomplished quickly and easily in a process performed in the dentist’s office. The procedure generally takes 1 hour. Using a precise, controlled minimally invasive surgical technique, Mini Implants are placed into he jaw bone. The heads of the implants protrude from the gum tissue and provide a strong, solid foundation for securing dentures. It is one step procedure that involves minimally invasive surgery, no sutures nor the typical months of healing.
